No matter if you are in real estate or in other industries, when it comes to content marketing, one of the most important things before producing the content is actually doing some keyword research.
But, would you go, for example, after the keyword “real estate” or other short tail, high search volume keywords?
Sure, with the right effort you might get them ranked in a few years on the Google search.
But if you don’t have all the time in the world and would like to see results a bit earlier, you might want to go after long tail keywords.
And for exactly that, there is a tool out there called long tail pro that can analyze keywords for you and give you the right long tail ones, so you have a better chance to rank in the organic search results of Google.
Once you have found the right long tail keywords with enough search volume per month and not too much competition with long tail pro, you can start to confidently create content around them, be it articles or videos, and have a higher chance of ranking in the organic search results of Google in a shorter amount of time.
So, with this long tail pro review, I will take a closer look at this software for you and show you it’s benefits, pros and cons.
Long Tail Pro Review – A Little Bit of History And What It Is
Long Tail Pro was created by Spencer Haws in 2011. He grew it until he sold it in 2016 and he maintains himself as an advisor for the new owner.
During the days of 2011, he was involved in creating little fast ranking niche websites that earned some income with Google AdSense (ads from Google that you can place on a website and earn per click.)
This work resulted in the need of a tool to find keywords fast that ranked fairly quickly in the organic search results of Google.
That’s where Long Tail Pro comes in.
It’s a keyword research tool that enables you to find low competition keywords for your website fast.
But one word of caution: it’s not the best tool to do keyword research for Google Ads campaigns, since it’s specialized in finding keywords for search engine optimization (SEO).
So, once you enter a seed keyword (e.g. a short tail one), it will return you hundreds of already-analyzed related keywords based on monthly search volume, advertiser bid, number of words, rank value, and the competitiveness.
The latter helps you evaluate the competition of the keyword and if it’s worthwhile to target with your content marketing efforts.
Long Tail Pro Review – The Pros
- You get bulk keyword suggestions (400 related keywords per seed keyword) and can input up to 5 seed keywords at a time.
- If you have already a large list of keywords you can input “manual” keywords and get the respective stats.
- The keyword competitive score helps you identify the right ones to go after, so you have a higher chance of ranking on Google.
- You can organize the different keyword lists per website, category, and more.
- It enables you to analyze your competition so you know how likely you will be able to rank above your competition on Google.
- It helps you track your ranking, including different projects and helping you keep domains separate.
Long Tail Pro Review – The Cons
- The max of manual keywords you can input is 200. This could be higher.
- You can input only a maximum of 5 seed keywords at a time.
- The display of the text and URLs in the competitor analysis could look a bit better.
A Closer Look at Measuring The Competitiveness Analysis Feature
As already mentioned, Long Tail Pro has a feature to measure the competitiveness of the keywords you input.
In contrast to other tools on the market, which break the keyword difficulty down into low, medium and high, it gives you a number between 0 and 100 and gives it a color: green, yellow, or unshaded .
If the number gets a green color, you can consider the competitiveness as easy and if it’s unshaded, it’s basically impossible to rank.
A Closer Look at The Competitor Spying Feature
Once you have generated different long tail keyword ideas, you can also do a competitive analysis of the different websites of your competitors that appear in the top results of the Google results page.
The different metrics offered in these results are Trust Flow, Site Age, Citation Flow, and Referring Domains. The latter metric is important to know, if you want to know which other websites are giving them backlinks and helping with their ranking.
If you happen to have a direct URL of your competitor, you can copy and paste it too and let long tail pro analyse it the same way, giving you the above metrics.
A Closer Look at The Rank Tracker
At some point, you might wonder where your website stands in terms of rankings on Google for its different pages and/or the main page.
Here, you can use the rank tracking feature of Long Tail Pro, so you can find out if your strategy is working and you chose the right keywords for your content marketing efforts.
In order to do that, you just enter your website URL and your target keywords and the tool will do the rest. Updates of your ranking positions are done on a daily basis.
Long Tail Pro Review – How Is It Different to The Google Keyword Planner
At first glance, you might think that you could also do your keyword research with the free tool from Google Ads, the Google Keyword Planner.
And it used to be a great tool to find long tail keywords.
But this has changed. Today, the situation is different, because Google has started to tie keywords together.
What does this mean?
For example, instead of showing you results for “top 10 keto diet programs muscle gain” and “top 10 keto diet programs for weight loss” it will show you now just “top 10 keto diet programs”. The two long tail keywords are tied together into just one.
This is still great when it comes to PPC advertising with Google Ads, because by that, you can pay the same price for two keywords.
But this is far from optimal when it comes to researching keywords for content to rank in the organic search results of Google.
So, this is better done with Long Tail Pro.
How Is Long Tail Pro Different To AHrefs
I am sure you have heard of ahrefs as a keyword research tool. But the difference to Long Tail Pro in one word is the price.
Sure, for the higher price, you get many more keywords than in Long Tail Pro and you can see the search engine results page at a glance and check what your competition is ranking for, but again, it’s almost 4 times the cost of Long Tail Pro.
It makes sense if you are a professional at SEO or have an SEO agency where you need to be doing serious link building. But if you are on a budget you might want to prefer Long Tail Pro.
Another slight issue that Ahrefs tends to have is that it doesn’t give you that much information about the keyword difficulty and you might go after keywords that at first seem to be easy, but actually aren’t.
And How About SEMRush?
With SEMRush, you can also do some good competitor research, but many features are the same as AHref’s, it costs basically the same, but has half the power and tools of it.
So, in this case AHref’s would be a better choice if you compare it to SEMRush.
How Does KWFinder Compare to Long Tail Pro?
In terms of features and functionality, both are quite similar. You get even more searches per queries (given that you purchased the more expensive plans).
The thing with KWFinder is that the basic plan is almost twice the price of Long Tail Pro. Additionally, it returns only between one half and one tenth of the keywords that Long Tail Pro can generate you.
A nice benefit of KWFinder is that you can easily do an analysis of the Google search engines results page for each keyword, and it shows you where your competitors are ranking.
So, if someday Long Tail Pro shouldn’t exist anymore, this would be the best alternative to choose.
However, what you need to know is that is costs more and gives you less keywords per query than Long Tail Pro.
Long Tail Pro Review – Frequently Asked Questions
Do I need to download Long Tail Pro?
In the past, Long Tail Pro was a desktop application, but since 2016, it’s been a web-based one, meaning no download will be necessary.
How can I cancel the subscription?
This is quite straightforward. You can cancel the subscription just by logging in with your account credentials and then go to the “Billing” section and there you click on “Cancel Account”.
What plan would be the best for me?
At the moment, you can choose between three plans: Start, Pro, or Agency.
If you are just starting out, the most suitable plan would be the starter plan. With it, you get 1000 keyword lookups per 24 hours and 30 tracked keywords.
If you are more seasoned and have several sites, the “Pro” plan might be better for you, which allows you to lookup 2500 keywords per day and track 200 keywords.
Should you have a quite established business, the agency plan is a suitable one, which allows you to lookup 6000 keywords per day and track 1000 keywords.
Is Long Tail Pro worth the money?
Popular keyword tracking tools often charge $49 per month to track 250 keywords.
This is a feature you get on top of the research features for free as a bonus with Long Trail Pro in the “Starter” plan and costs just $25 per month.
So, you get more value compared to other tools and, thus, more bang for your buck.
