No matter if you are in real estate or in other industries, when it comes to content marketing, one of the most important things before producing the content is actually doing some keyword research.

But, would you go, for example, after the keyword “real estate” or other short tail, high search volume keywords?

Sure, with the right effort, you might get them ranked in a few years on the Google search.

But if you don’t have all the time in the world and would like to see results a bit earlier, you might want to go after long-tail keywords.

And for exactly that, there is a tool out there called long tail pro that can analyze keywords for you and give you the right long tail ones, so you have a better chance to rank in the organic search results of Google.

Once you have found the right long tail keywords with enough search volume per month and not too much competition with Long Tail Pro, you can start to confidently create content around them, be it articles or videos, and have a higher chance of ranking in the organic search results of Google in a shorter amount of time.

So, with this long tail pro review, I will take a closer look at this software and show you its benefits, pros, and cons.

Long Tail Pro Review – A Little Bit of History And What It Is

Long Tail Pro was created by Spencer Haws in 2011. He grew it until he sold it in 2016, and he maintains himself as an advisor for the new owner.

In 2011, he created little fast-ranking niche websites that earned some income with Google AdSense (ads from Google that you can place on a website and earn per click.)

This work resulted in the need for a tool to find keywords fast that ranked reasonably quickly in the organic search results of Google.

That’s where Long Tail Pro comes in.

It’s a keyword research tool that enables you to find low-competition keywords for your website fast.

But one word of caution: it’s not the best tool for keyword research for Google Ads campaigns since it specializes in finding keywords for search engine optimization (SEO).

So, once you enter a seed keyword (e.g., a short tail one), it will return hundreds of already-analyzed related keywords based on monthly search volume, advertiser bid, number of words, rank value, and competitiveness.

The latter helps you evaluate the keyword’s competition and if it’s worthwhile to target with your content marketing efforts.

Long Tail Pro Review – The Pros

  • You get bulk keyword suggestions (400 related keywords per seed keyword) and can input up to 5 seed keywords simultaneously.
  • You can input “manual” keywords and get the respective stats if you already have a large list of keywords.
  • The keyword competitive score helps you identify the right ones to go after, so you have a higher chance of ranking on Google.
  • You can organize the different keyword lists per website, category, and more.
  • It enables you to analyze your competition so you know how likely you will be able to rank above your competition on Google.
  • It helps you track your ranking, including different projects and enables you to keep domains separate.

Long Tail Pro Review – The Cons

  • The max of manual keywords you can input is 200. This could be higher.
  • You can input only a maximum of 5 seed keywords at a time.
  • The display of the text and URLs in the competitor analysis could look a bit better.

A Closer Look at Measuring The Competitiveness Analysis Feature

As already mentioned, Long Tail Pro has a feature to measure the competitiveness of the keywords you input.

In contrast to other tools on the market, which break the keyword difficulty down into low, medium, and high, it gives you a number between 0 and 100. It gives it a color: green, yellow, or unshaded.

If the number gets green, you can consider the competitiveness as easy. If it’s unshaded, it’s basically impossible to rank.

A Closer Look at The Competitor Spying Feature

Once you have generated different long tail keyword ideas, you can also do a competitive analysis of your competitors’ websites that appear in the top results of the Google results page.

The metrics offered in these results are Trust Flow, Site Age, Citation Flow, and Referring Domains.

The latter metric is important if you want to know which other websites are giving them backlinks and helping with their ranking.

Suppose you happen to have a direct URL of your competitor. In that case, you can copy and paste it and let long tail pro analyze it similarly, giving you the above metrics.

A Closer Look at The Rank Tracker

At some point, you might wonder where your website stands regarding rankings on Google for its different pages and/or the main page.

Here, you can use the rank tracking feature of Long Tail Pro to find out if your strategy is working and if you chose the right keywords for your content marketing efforts.

To do that, you enter your website URL and target keywords, and the tool will do the rest. Updates of your ranking positions are done daily.

Long Tail Pro Review – How Is It Different from The Google Keyword Planner

At first glance, you might think you could also do your keyword research with the free tool from Google Ads, the Google Keyword Planner.

And it used to be an excellent tool for finding long tail keywords.

But this has changed. Today, the situation is different because Google has started to tie keywords together.

What does this mean?

For example, instead of showing you results for “top 10 keto diet programs muscle gain” and “top 10 keto diet programs for weight loss,” it will show you now just “top 10 keto diet programs”.

The two long tail keywords are tied together into just one.

This is still great when it comes to PPC advertising with Google Ads because by that, you can pay the same price for two keywords.

But this is far from optimal when researching keywords for content to rank in the organic search results of Google.

So, this is better done with Long Tail Pro.

How Is Long Tail Pro Different From AHrefs

I am sure you have heard of ahrefs as a keyword research tool. But the difference to Long Tail Pro, in a word, is the price.

You get many more keywords for a higher price than Long Tail Pro.

You can see the search engine results page at a glance and check what your competition is ranking for, but again, it’s almost four times the cost of Long Tail Pro.

It makes sense if you are a professional at SEO or have an SEO agency where you need to do serious link-building.

But if you are on a budget, you might want to prefer Long Tail Pro.

Another slight issue that Ahrefs tends to have is that it doesn’t give you that much information about the keyword difficulty.

You might go after keywords that initially seem easy but aren’t.

And How About SEMRush?

With SEMRush, you can also do some good competitor research, but many features are the same as AHref’s.

It costs basically the same but has half the power and tools of it.

So, in this case, AHref’s would be better if you compare it to SEMRush.

How Does KWFinder Compare to Long Tail Pro?

In terms of features and functionality, both are pretty similar. You get even more searches per query (given that you purchased the more expensive plans).

The thing with KWFinder is that the basic plan is almost twice the price of Long Tail Pro.

Additionally, it returns only one-half and one-tenth of the keywords that Long Tail Pro can generate for you.

A nice benefit of KWFinder is that you can quickly analyze each keyword’s Google search engine results page. It will show you where your competitors are ranking.

So, if someday Long Tail Pro shouldn’t exist anymore, this would be the best alternative to choose.

However, you need to know that it costs more and gives you fewer keywords per query than Long Tail Pro.

Long Tail Pro Review – Frequently Asked Questions

Do I need to download Long Tail Pro?

Long Tail Pro was a desktop application in the past, but since 2016, it’s been a web-based one, meaning no download will be necessary.

How can I cancel the subscription?

This is relatively straightforward. You can cancel the subscription just by logging in with your account credentials and then going to the “Billing” section. There you click on “Cancel Account.”

What plan would be the best for me?

You can now choose between three plans: Start, Pro, or Agency.

If you are just starting out, the starter plan is the most suitable one. With it, you get 1000 keyword lookups per 24 hours and 30 tracked keywords.

If you are more seasoned and have several sites, the “Pro” plan might be better for you, which allows you to look up 2500 keywords per day and track 200 keywords.

Should you have a quite established business, the agency plan is suitable, allowing you to look up 6000 keywords per day and track 1000 keywords.

Is Long Tail Pro worth the money?

Popular keyword tracking tools often charge $49 per month to track 250 keywords.

You get this feature on top of the research features for free as a bonus with Long Trail Pro in the “Starter” plan, and it costs just $25 per month.

So, you get more value compared to other tools and, thus, more bang for your buck.
